Spring Training Game 13: Rangers (4-7-1) vs. Dodgers (4-6)

Randy Wells (0-0, 4.50 ERA)

vs.

Chad Billingsley (0-1, 10.38 ERA)

Spring Training Game 13: Rangers (4-7-1) at Dodgers (4-6), 2:05 pm CT

Texas travels to Camelback Ranch on Thursday to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers, looking to build on their modest two game winning streak.  Texas knocked off the Padres on Monday before a day off on Tuesday, followed by a win against the Cubs on Wednesday.

The Rangers will send Randy Wells out to start on the hill today, his third start of the spring.  Wells has pitched two innings in each of his starts, and you can expect him to extend his innings today if things go as planned.  Wells has given up three runs in his four innings of work, striking out three and walking just one while allowing a total of eight hits in those two starts.

Chad Billingsley will get the start for the Dodgers, coming off of a start last Saturday against Seattle in which he gave up three runs in just over two innings of work.  Billingsley has given up five hits in both of his starts this spring in a combined 4 1/3 innings pitched.  He has recorded three strikeouts and allowed one walk.  For his career, Billingsley has an 80-61 record with a career 3.66 ERA.  In 2012, Billingsley was 10-9 with a 3.55 ERA for the Dodgers.

A full slate of games will be on tap for Thursday, as well as three World Baseball Classic games that I will talk about in another post this morning.  In the Grapefruit League, there will be a few faces to watch taking the mound today, including Cliff Lee for the Phillies as they take on a split squad Minnesota team.  Clay Buchholz will start for the Red Sox as they travel to take on the other half of the Twins.  Gio Gonzalez will get the start for Washington as they take on the Astros; Gonzalez is 2-0 this spring with a 3.60 ERA.  Mark Buehrle will also be getting a start on Thursday as the Blue Jays take on the Orioles.  A couple of young, up and coming pitchers will also be starting in the Grapefruit League, as Drew Smyly starts for Detroit against the Braves and Matt Harvey of the Mets starts against Miami.  In the Cactus League, two pitchers who have fallen from past success will meet each other, as the Giants start Tim Lincecum against the Indians and Ubaldo Jimenez.  Felix Hernandez of the Mariners will start for the first time this spring against a Kansas City team that is still undefeated during Spring Training (11-0).
