Since the Rangers and Royals opened Surprise Stadium in 2003, the first Spring Training game for each team has been between the two.

This year, the two teams will meet for three consecutive days with a Friday-Sunday series.

Kansas City will send out Will Smith as their starting pitcher.  Smith started 16 games last season, finishing with a 6-9 record and a 5.32 ERA for the Royals.

Texas trots out Derek Holland to start the opener, giving him an opportunity to see some game action before he leaves camp for the World Baseball Classic. Holland was 12-7 with a 4.67 ERA in 2012 for Texas.
